Lakewood High Academic Challenge Team Qualifies For Nationals

LAKEWOOD, OH — The Lakewood Academic Challenge team has again qualified for the National Academic Quiz Tournaments' National Tournament. The squad will go to Atlanta in late May to compete.

The team finished second out of 24 school during a tournament at Tiffin High on Sept. 24. Then the squad finished third on Nov. 16 at a competition at Cloverleaf. Lakewood High senior Evan Bell took second overall at both tournaments.

"I am so impressed by the hard work and dedication these students put forth to be so successful. Even more impressive, every team member is also involved in a variety of other extracurricular activities, take rigorous courses, and are just great people. I am very proud of them and they truly represent the vision of a Lakewood graduate," said Lakewood High Principal Mark Walter.

The Lakewood High Academic Challenge team has two more tournaments upcoming, at Solon and Copley. Lakewood will also challenge all of the Southwest Conference over the coming months. In March, the team will tape an episode of Academic Challenge for WEWS.

With the tournament in Atlanta upcoming, the team will be collecting funds to defray the cost of the trip. Donations can be sent to LHS Academic Challenge Team, 14100 Franklin Blvd., Lakewood OH 44107. Checks should me payable to Academic Challenge Team Fund – LHS.

The Lakewood Academic Challenge team has qualified for the national competition for seven straight years. The team is advised by teachers Peter Petto and Bob Sedlak.
