Lakewood High School Inducts 68 National Honor Society Members

The students were inducted into the society during a Feb. 15 ceremony. Students must have a GPA of at least 3.5 to be considered for NHS.

LAKEWOOD, OH - A staggering 68 Lakewood High School students were inducted into the Lakewood High National Honor Society on Feb. 15. The students were inducted during a ceremony at the high school. A full list of students inducted is available at the bottom of this story.

To be inducted into the National Honor Society, students must possess a GPA of at least 3.5. Students are also evaluated based on their character. That means the National Honor Society looks at community involvement, extracurriculars, leadership skills, and other intangibles.

During the induction ceremony, four NHS officers gave speeches related to the four tenets of the organization: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. President Rachel Daso spoke on the topic of leadership. Vice President Evan Suttell spoke of scholarship. Secretary Emma Yonkers spoke about service and Treasurer Kent Adams discussed character.

The ceremony also included a keynote speech from Julie Wang Warren, the co-owner and president of Erie Design in Lakewood. Warren is also chairperson of the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She discussed how humans have communicated over the decades and used props to explain past messages. She concluded her speech with a plea to connect with other people and your community using whatever communication possible.

The National Honor Society has helped produce some of America's most important leaders and cultural contributors.
