Lakewood High School Awarded $10,000 and Music Festival

The High School Nation Tour has selected Lakewood as one of three schools in the state to host an arts festival.

LAKEWOOD, OH - The High School Nation Tour, a music and arts festival founded to celebrate arts in public schools, has chosen Lakewood High School as one of its hosts during its trek through Ohio. As part of the tour, Lakewood High's art and music departments will receive more than $10,000 in donations from tour sponsors.

The tour will visit the school on Oct. 13. Besides music appreciation, the festival will highlight journalism, film, fine & performing arts, fashion, photography, and stage production.

Students will visit the concert and festival at First Federal Stadium during the last two periods of the school day. Performers include headliner Drake Bell (Nickelodeon’s Drake & Josh), YouTube sensation Skylar Stecker, Pop duo Tryon, and young pop-rock act The Catching. Students will visit interactive zones including the Full Sail University Media Zone, Guitar Center Music Zone, Crayola Art With Edge Zone, The Style Zone, and the Truth Truck.

Earlier in the day, students in art and music classes will have the chance to participate in a panel about the career possibilities in the arts.

The High School Nation Tour website says that one of the organization's missions is to, "assist in rebuilding music & arts programs nationwide by offering the tools necessary to succeed." Over the last two years, the organization and its partner Takis, have generated more than $1 million in donations for schools.

HSN Founders Jimmy Cantillon and Kevin Cantillon had this to say about the tour: “For High School Nation to have surpassed one million dollars in donations, with the support of Takis, is a real dream for us. It’s important to us to support creative expression among teens. We’re honored to do our part to keep the arts alive.”

The tour's previous musical acts have included the Black Eyed Peas, The Rocket Summer, and Justine Skye.
