LAKEWOOD, OH — Lakewood's second electric car charging station opened this week at Serpentini Winterhurst Arenea.

Using grant funding from NOPEC and NextEra Energy, Lakewood has installed two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. A Level 2 EV station was built at Lakewood City Center (Marc's Plaza) and the second, a DC Fast Charger, at Serpentini Winterhurst Arena, 14470 Lakewood Heights Boulevard.

The DC Fast Charge station allows for rapid recharging of electric vehicles, with most vehicles restoring 80 percent of battery charge within 30 minutes. Officials chose the Winterhurst location because of its proximity to I-90, the city said on its website.

"In addition to serving users within Lakewood, this location will serve as part of a network of Fast Chargers along Ohio’s interstate highways enabling electric vehicles to extend their range for longer trips," the city wrote on its website.

The Marc's Plaza charger was installed about six months ago. Here's a video of Mayor Mike Summers making use of the station last year. He suggests the city is considering further implementation of EV charging stations.
