Lakewood Man Found Guilty Of Murder

Jason White has been convicted of killing his wife in her sleep in February 2017, according to news reports.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Jason White, 39, of Lakewood, has been found guilty of murdering his wife in her sleep, according to cleveland.com. The murder occurred in early February 2017.

Police were called to White's house on Plover Street by White's father. They found 36-year-old Stacey White, dead, on a bed in the basement of the house.

White's father was told about the shooting via text message. He took his granddaughter and fled the residence before calling police, according to a 911 call published by Channel 19. (Subscribe to the Patch Lakewood newsletter for local news and updates.)

White never denied killing his wife, cleveland.com's Cory Shaffer reports. Instead, his lawyer argued the killing was spontaneous and did not involve any planning on White's part. That defense may have saved White from being convicted of aggravated murder.

Judge Sherrie Miday did not agree with the argument and issued a guilty verdict on Monday. White will be sentenced in October.
