Lakewood Officials Distributing Reusable Bags To Residents

With Cuyahoga County's plastic bag ban in effect, several city officials have received free reusable bags to distribute.

LAKEWOOD, OH — With Cuyahoga County's plastic bag ban in effect, Lakewood city officials will be distributing reusable bags to residents. Both Lakewood City Council and Mayor Meghan George's office applied for and received 100 reusable bags from the county.

The bags were offered to city officials for free, according to Lakewood City Council President Dan O'Malley. He said councilpersons will be encouraged to distribute the bags at various events.

"With the county's new bag policy going into effect, we wanted to help raise awareness and assist residents by making these bags readily available. We are encouraging council members to bring some to town hall meetings, block parties and other community events," O'Malley told Patch.

A spokesperson for George said the mayor's office would be use a "strategic approach" to distribute the bags. Officials want to make sure the bags end up in the hands of "those who really need them."

"Some of the bags have already been distributed to the seniors at the Division of Aging, some will be available on buses when seniors go to the grocery store, some were given to the Lakewood Community Services Center to be distributed to their clients and we still have some that we are still determining a good location for distribution," the spokesperson told Patch.
