Lakewood Prom, Graduation Postponed Till June
The district is preparing to continue remote learning through the end of the school year.

LAKEWOOD, OH — The Lakewood City Schools have a 60-day remote learning plan in place to carry them through the end of the school year, the district said. The plan was enacted before Gov. Mike DeWine announced all K-12 schools in Ohio will not be allowed to meet through the end of the school year.
Traditional end-of-the-year festivities like prom and graduation have been postponed to late June, a district spokesperson told Patch. Those events will only go forward if DeWine lifts further restrictions on social gatherings.
If the go-ahead is given, Lakewood prom will be held June 25 and commencement will be held June 27.

Spring sports have officially been cancelled.
"We know the news and the subsequent ramifications are a great disappointment, but at this crucial time in the pandemic we must do all we can to keep students, staff, parents, and our community safe!" the district said in a note to the community on Monday.

In the interim, remote learning will continue unabated. The district began distance learning in early April, when DeWine extended the closure of Ohio schools. Lakewood Schools officials shared their detailed 60-day remote learning plan with the community on April 10.
The plan outlines how long each grade level can expect to engage in distance learning:
- PK — 1 hour per day
- K-2 — 2 hours per day, including time for art, music and physical education
- Grades 3 to 5 — 3 hours per day, including time for art, music and physical education
- Grades 6 to 8 — Up to 30 minutes per period per day
- High school — Up to 30 minutes per period per day, though AP courses could require additional time
District officials have said they will provide further updates on how they will handle the cancellation of in-class learning through the end of the year.
