Lakewood Schools Approve Goals For 2017-2018 School Year
Some of the district's goals include wrapping up high school construction, selling the Board office building, and implementing more tech.

LAKEWOOD, OH — The Board of Education approved the Lakewood School District's goals for the 2017-2018 school year at its July 17 meeting. Among the goals for the coming school year are: improving student achievement, fostering a positive and collaborative relationship with employees, effectively managing district operations, continuing the district's construction plan, continuing the district's fiscal stability, and building upon the trust of the community.

The district said it wants to offer more extra-curricular programs to students. Students can also expect a continued focus on technology integration in schools, with a goal of a 1:1 computing model at Lakewood High School. The district also wants to develop attendance intervention teams and better understanding of new attendance requirements.

School district officials also want to complete the sale of the Lakewood Board of Education office building and finish relocating staff next year. The criteria for the sale of that building was set on June 5.
Residents can also expect to see changes to the lighting in various school buildings. The district wants to implement a lighting retrofit and LED energy savings programs by December 2017.

Here are the district's goals for its current construction and maintenance projects:
- Collaborate with city officials and the community to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors at the high school construction site.
- Monitor the high school construction schedule to meet the following timelines:
- Plan for the opening of the east side (performing arts, cafeteria, media center, and north parking lot) and renovation of the A and B wing (main office, classrooms, and student based health center) for the start of the 2017-18 school year.
- Complete construction of the gymnasium and east parking lot by November 1, 2017.
- Plan for the opening of the Fitness Center (January 2018).
- Plan an open house for the east side of the building and renovation of the A & B building (August, 2017).
- Work with the OFCC, Ozanne Construction, GPD, AECOM, Brewer-Garrett, and TRA for the preparation of the final construction and financing closeout documents for the three elementary schools and high school.
