Lakewood Schools To Close For 3 Weeks
State officials ordered all schools in Ohio to close for three weeks.
LAKEWOOD, OH — The Lakewood City Schools will be closed for at least three weeks, starting Tuesday, March 17. State officials ordered all schools shuttered to halt the spread of the new coronavirus, COVID-19.
"During these three weeks, there will be no school-sponsored activities. This also includes all Recreation Department activities. There are many details to work out as we consider this decision’s ramifications for both students and staff," district officials said in a statement on Thursday. "We will communicate our plan as soon as we are able. For those parents whose children attend one of our partner child care providers located in our buildings, we suggest you contact your child care provider as those programs will not take place in our schools during the three-week closure."
Ohio now has five confirmed cases of coronavirus, COVID-19, DeWine announced Thursday afternoon. As the virus continues to spread in Ohio, officials are banning any gathering of more than 100 people and are giving Ohio students an extended spring break of three weeks, starting Tuesday, March 17.

"These are unprecedented times and we will all need to pull together to help keep our community safe. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these unchartered waters," Superintendent Michael Barnes said.
