Lakewood Schools Want New Gym Equipment

The district wants to add new cardio equipment to its auxiliary gym and public workout space.

LAKEWOOD, OH — The Lakewood City Schools are looking to buy or lease cardio fitness equipment for the auxiliary gym at Lakewood High School and a public fitness center. In a request for proposals (RFP), the district says it wants to have the new equipment for the auxiliary gym by Nov. 1, 2017, and equipment for the public fitness center by Jan. 1, 2018.

The RFPs will be accepted until Sept. 7, 2017. Following the deadline, the submitted proposals will be opened and read publicly, according to the district.

The district says the equipment will need to be delivered by Oct. 29, 2017 and completely installed prior to Nov. 1, 2017. All of the equipment will be leased for a period of three years, the RFP said. (Subscribe to the Patch Lakewood newsletter for local news and updates.)

The public workout space will open Jan. 1, 2018. Membership for the public gym will need to be acquired through the Recreation Department, and prices for membership will be "comparable to surrounding area fitness centers," a spokesperson said.

A spokesperson for Lakewood Schools said the district doesn't have an accurate idea of what the equipment may cost.

"We cannot give an accurate dollar amount because the RFP is for equipment that will be a blend of leased and purchased and will be used for both the high school's weight room for students and the community fitness center," the spokesperson said in an email to Patch.

The district also outlined in the RFP the ancillary services it wants included with the purchase of the equipment. That includes: maintenance, preventative maintenance, prompt response to maintenance calls and new-ish equipment must be provided (the leased workout machines cannot be more than one model older than the newest equipment from the manufacturer).

The first floor auxiliary gym equipment being target includes:

  • Treadmills
  • Ellipticals
  • Recumbent bikes

The second floor fitness center wants to add:

  • Treadmills
  • Ellipticals
  • Recumbent bikes
  • Upright bikes
  • Spinning bikes
  • Stepmill
  • Assault bikes
  • Water rowers
