Lakewood Swears In New Police Chief

Kevin Kaucheck replaces longtime police chief Tim Malley, who retired in June.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Kevin Kaucheck is Lakewood's new police chief.

Kaucheck was sworn in during a ceremony last week at Lakewood City Hall. Mayor Meghan George administered the oath of office for Kaucheck in a small ceremony.

“Kevin is an extremely well qualified and experienced law enforcement officer who is respected by his peers and will provide tremendous leadership for our department," George said in a statement.

Former Lakewood Police Chief Tim Malley retired this year after nearly two decades as chief. After the retirement, Lakewood officials began a civil service examination process to identify candidates and narrow down the selection.

Kaucheck is a 30-year police veteran. He was lieutenant in charge of Lakewood Police's Narcotics and Vice Unit for nine years before being promoted to captain and leading the Patrol Division and then the Administrative Division.

"I am humbled and honored to serve as Chief of Police to a department where I have invested so much and in a community where I have built such strong relationships. I look forward to continuing our department's development," Kaucheck said.
