Here are the top three stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Lakewood-born Katie Nageotte won the gold in the women's pole vault at the 2022 World Track & Field Championships in Oregon. The 31-year-old Northeast Ohio native's victory makes her the current Olympic and World champion in the sport. If Nageotte competes at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, she will have the opportunity to become the second woman to win back-to-back gold medals in pole vault. (NBC4 WCMH-TV)
  2. 19 News meteorologist Jon Loufman returned home this weekend from the hospital after being attacked and severely beaten in his home on Jul. 9. Loufman thanked the community for all of the "remarkably powerful prayers" and well wishes. He said apart from some fatigue, he is making an extraordinarily quick and complete recovery. (Cleveland 19)
  3. Despite resident opposition, Cuyahoga County officials appear to be moving forward with a $46 million proposal to renovate the Global Center for Health Innovation into more meeting space for the attached convention center. The County Council pledged $5 million in federal stimulus funds to renovate the four-story building creating more meeting space and a larger ballroom. On Tuesday, the council will hear a proposal to borrow $31 million to cover most of the remaining costs associated with the renovation. (Cleveland.com)
