Lincoln Wins 2017 DARE Basketball Tournament
The elementary school beat out its six peer schools to win the 17th-annual tournament.

LAKEWOOD, OH - The Lincoln Elementary School's D.A.R.E. basketball team won the 2017 D.A.R.E. tournament, sponsored by the Lakewood Police Department. The team beat Harrison Elementary 27 to 9 in the final.
The 17th-annual basketball tournament was played April 8 at Harding Elementary School on Madison Avenue. The tournament featured fifth-grade students from the city. Games started at 9 a.m. and the championship game was played at 2 p.m.
Teams from all seven of Lakewood's elementary schools competed. The tournament is single-elimination format, a la March Madness. All coaches volunteer and the Lakewood Police staff the tournament. T-shirts were provided to players and coaches.

Lincoln was coached by Nicole Anderson and assisted by Valerie Garcia. The finals appearance was the first in school history for Harrison. The school district congratulated the Lakewood Police Department and all the players and coaches on its website.
During the event, non-perishables, money, hygiene items, and other donations were collected by police and Lakewood Community Services. All donations were donated to the Lakewood Community Services Center.
