Listen to the violin playing a haunting piece in the spookiest way. Owen Seiler plays Danse Macabre by C. Saint-Saens (1874) or the Dance of Death with Marrell Music instructor John Thompson accompanying on piano. It's a symbolic representation of death with origiins in the Middle Ages. In it, a skeleton or procession of skeletons lead the living to the grave and invite them to also die. Interest in the genre re-surge in the 19th century following Goethe's poem "Der Todtentanz" depicting midnight revels. Saint-Saens included this piece in a set of four Symphonic poems composed in 1874.
