Mars Avenue House Catches Fire, Lakewood Firefighter Hurt

Lakewood's Fire Chief said the injured firefighter was taken to Lakewood Emergency Department, treated and then released.

LAKEWOOD, OH — A Mars Avenue home caught fire on Thursday afternoon. One firefighter was hurt extinguishing the blaze.

The fire started on the second floor of a house in the 2100 block of Mars. The fire blew through the windows of the home and damaged a neighboring house, Lakewood Fire Chief Scott Gilman told Patch in an email.

During the blaze, the Lakewood Fire Department asked residents to avoid Mars, south of Madison.

Firefighters from Rocky River and Fairview Park responded to the scene and helped Lakewood Fire get the blaze under control. During the extinguishing, a firefighter was hurt. Gilman said the firefighter was treated at Lakewood's Emergency Department and then released.

The cause of the fire has not yet been discovered and Gilman said investigators are still looking into what happened to start the blaze.
