Here are the top three stories today in Lakewood:
- In response to Ohio's efforts to consolidate dispatch services throughout the state, Mayor Meghan George told the Lakewood City Council on Monday that she would look for ways to keep police and fire dispatchers in Lakewood. "My goal has always been to keep dispatch in Lakewood, so we're going to look for ways to make sure that our dispatch does stay right here in the city," Mayor George said in a statement. The State of Ohio began asking communities to reduce the number of PSAPs (Public Safety Answering Points) or risk losing out on communications system funding. Lakewood recently lost out on a $10,000 contribution toward a new dispatch services console when the state determined that the city does not need a third console. (cleveland.com)
- The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District agreed to make $1.5 million in grant money available for green infrastructure projects for 2023. The decision made at a recent board meeting will set aside monies to go towards addressing the amount of stormwater flowing into the region's problematic combined-sewer system. Permeable pavement, bio-retention areas, and vegetative roofs are some examples of projects that may be considered. (cleveland.com)
- Former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora's prison sentence was reduced by five years by United States District Judge Sara Lioi at a hearing on Wednesday morning.
Dimora was convicted of 32 corruption-related charges in March 2012, and is currently serving his sentence at the Devens Federal Medical Center in Massachusetts. He is now scheduled for release in February 2031. (Cleveland 19 News)
