Here are the top three stories in and around Lakewood today:

  1. The trial for eighteen-year-old Tamara McLoyd was set to start yesterday. McLoyd was accused of killing off-duty Cleveland police officer Shane Bartek during a New Year's Eve carjacking. McLoyd is charged with aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery, felonious assault, and other charges in Bartek's death. She faces life in prison if found guilty. (cleveland.com)
  2. Erin Stephens, a 31-year-old karate instructor in nearby Avon Lake, was indicted on sexual battery charges for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a teen. Investigators stated that an investigation into Stephens began in March 2022 when a 19-year-old man reported to Avon Lake police that he had a relationship with his karate instructor when he was a minor. Detectives found that Stephens had a sexual relationship with the male when he was between 16 and 17 years old and working as a student-worker at the karate studio. (Cleveland 19)
  3. The all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning is available at dealerships throughout the Greater Cleveland area for test drives. While there's still a long wait for buyers, "mannequin" model trucks can show off the car's features, but won't be sold for six months. Each Ford EV-certified dealer will get one mannequin, said Ford. (cleveland.com)
