Melt Bar and Grilled Donates $1,400 To Ohio Food Banks

The Lakewood-based grilled cheese restaurant matched customer donations for Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Dayton and Columbus food banks.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Melt Bar and Grilled is donating $1,400 to local food banks in Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Dayton and Columbus. The restaurant held a Harvest for Hunger campaign in May and agreed to match donations made during that time.

The company will be hosting another Harvest for Hunger campaign in August. The company said customers should join the campaign again at that time, but they could also donate whenever at the Harvest for Hunger website.

In June, though, the company is rolling out its "Skip the Straw" campaign. "Year after year, trash enters our waterways, hurting economies, harming wildlife and impacting the health of humans and communities. This is one environmental issue Melt Bar and Grilled can help address and we have joined forces with Sustainable Cleveland to help launch the “Skip the Straw” campaign," the company said in a press release.

Designed to bring awareness to the trash accumulation in Lake Erie and other waterways, waiters and waitresses will no longer automatically serve a disposable plastic straw with each beverage. Straws will still be available upon request, but Melt says initial testing has shown guests are content without a straw.

"Melt is thrilled to be doing a small part to help save the environment and our precious Lake Erie Please join with us and “Skip the Straw” while enjoying Melt Bar and Grilled or at other great establishments in Ohio," the company said.
