Meyer has plans to keep Lakewood Schools moving forward
Local consortiums are a good way to start!

While readers have learned a lot about me over the last few months, I also wanted to communicate more specifically on what some of my plans and priorities are. I’ve always thought of myself as a person with big ideas. Big doesn’t always mean a big change, just the right kind of change that can be hard to get. What are some of my priorities, and how have I shown that I can help make them happen?
One tweak that could pay big dividends is to work towards a new consortium or cooperative effort to meet and exchange best practices and ideas with local Cuyahoga County school districts. We can learn a lot from other local suburbs that share many of the same issues. Avoiding common pitfalls, learning new efficiencies; that can help in the near and the long term. I took a similar mindset in my service on the Charter Review commission, where I helped lead an effort to include innovative training provisions for newly elected councilmembers and mayors, to stimulate good ideas and best practices.
I’d also like to work on new ways to focus on the individual student, whether through special education, advanced classes, music or other programs geared toward the individual. State guidelines provide a hurdle to overcome, but it doesn’t mean that renewed attention and outside the box creativity can’t provide new improvements.

In addition, according to the 5-year forecast, there is a budgetary shortfall anticipated for next year. I will take a close look at the budget once I have hands on access. Last year my wife and I had finished paying off the last of our debt. Moreover, as a small business owner, I take pains to ensure that my operating costs are always substantially lower than my intake. I have a background that is well suited to being a prudent representative of the taxpayers, but with our daughter entering the school system in the coming years, someone who also has a vested interest in making sure that our community’s children have what is needed to thrive.
I have plans and ideas that can carry our school districts positive momentum forward, and I hope you will consider voting for me on or before November 5th!
