LAKEWOOD, OH — Last week, Scalish Construction was selected to handle the redevelopment of the Trinity Lutheran Church site on Detroit Avenue. City officials said Scalish's proposal included space for retail, dining, residential units and public areas for gathering, including a gazebo, bocce court and green space.

On Tuesday, Scalish Construction released more details on what they're planning for the site.

In an emailed statement, Scalish said the Trinity Church project would follow the IWBI WELL certification path. The WELL Building Standard guides the creation of spaces that have a positive impact on occupant health and wellness.

To achieve this certification, the project will feature a design that connects exterior and interior environments, circadian lighting to promote sleep at night and energy during the day, and mechanical systems geared to provide superior indoor air quality.

Scalish also said the project would include a small solar array, an educational community garden with rainwater recycling, bicycle parking for tenants and guests, electric car charging stations and a green roof.

“We are really excited to be part of this project,” says Frank Scalish, president of Scalish Construction. “We’re based in Lakewood, we live in Lakewood, and we have driven past Trinity Church thousands of times, and to be part of its revitalization and help it remain vital to the community for another hundred years, is exactly what drives us because we are passionate about historic preservation.”

Scalish Construction recently completed the BoxSpot business incubator facility on Cleveland's east side, as well as Hola Tacos, a taqueria in Birdtown, and is working on Machine Gun Kelley's 27 Club coffee shop.

Timeline

Now that Scalish Construction has been selected, Lakewood City Council will review the development agreement. If the agreement is approved, the project would go through the city board and commission approvals and permitting in the building department.

The proposed development would create 30 jobs and new real estate tax revenue to benefit the Lakewood Schools and the community at large. Scalish Construction would be one of the first tenants in the new space. The company is planning to move its headquarters to the site
