Multi-Purpose Field To Be Added At Lakewood High

The district is currently accepting bids for the project. Work should start by June or July 2018.

LAKEWOOD, OH — The Lakewood City School District is currently looking for bids from developers for a multi-purpose field at the high school. Work is expected to start on the field by June or July 2018, according to a post from the district.

Bids are due by March 1. The district has said a developer will be selected based on the "lowest and most responsible bid."

Superintendent Jeff Patterson first introduced the concept of the multi-use field in August 2017. He said then the focus of the work would be installation of a softball field. There could also be room for other teams, like soccer, rugby, football and track and fields to practice and compete.

The cost of the project won't be known until the bids are received on March 1. Patterson initially said a price tag for the multi-purpose field may be in the range of $500,000-$600,000.

The north lot existed as a playing field until 2006 when modular units were installed.

The project will mean the resumption of construction at the high school. Lakewood High celebrated the completion of nearly 10 years of steady construction on Nov. 30, 2017. The district held a Purple & Gold rally in the new gymnasium to commemorate the end of construction. The district debuted its renovated or newly built wings to the public in sections. The new academic wing opened after the 2016 holidays and the eastern wing of the school was opened up in late August 2017.

Despite being introduced by Patterson, the project may be completed under a new Lakewood Superintendent. Late in 2017, Patterson announced that he would retire after the 2017-2018 school year. He said the completion of the district's high school construction helped him feel comfortable stepping away.
