New Principal Hired For Garfield Middle School

LAKEWOOD, OH — Robin Beavers will be the next principal of Garfield Middle School. Beavers' hiring was approved at Monday's Lakewood Board of Education meeting. She replaces Mark Walter who was hired to become Lakewood High's next principal.

“I am completely humbled and honored at the opportunity to return to Garfield as the principal. My experiences as a teacher in the building taught me not only to appreciate the rich diversity of the staff and students but to embrace the bright future surely ahead for them all.

"Holding my colleagues in high esteem, I am excited and proud to work alongside them once again. Behind the exceptional leadership of Mark Walter, I am charged to make this journey worthy and purposeful,” Beavers said in a statement.

Beavers will start her new job on August 1.

Before becoming Harding's assistant principal last year, Beavers spent four years as a science teacher at Garfield. She has also been the school district's summer school coordinator for the past two years.

Beavers is a Lakewood resident and is currently studying the District's Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) system and its effects on Lakewood students as part of her Ph.D. dissertation at Cleveland State University. She got her bachelor's degree from Miami University and her master's in educational administration from Cleveland State.

"Robin is a visionary. She is student-centered and interested in supporting and helping staff to grow. While the District is undergoing many changes, Robin's familiarity with Garfield will help maintain stability within the school community. We are all excited for her," said incoming Lakewood Schools Superintendent Michael Barnes.
