Seventeen Nexus Academy of Cleveland seniors were presented their diplomas today during the blended high school’s second annual commencement ceremony. Since the schools’ opening in August 2012, Nexus Academy has provided Cleveland area students a different approach to education where students follow an online curriculum in a brick and mortar setting. The 2014 class is three times larger than last year’s inaugural group of graduates.
“Every student comes to Nexus Academy for a different reason whether they are in search of a more challenging curriculum, flexibility in schedule or a more nurturing environment. Today we celebrate the commitment and determination to reach this academic milestone that is within each of our seniors,” said Nexus Academy School Leader Brittiany Sanford. “As each of these graduates move on to their next stage in their life, be it college or into the workforce, we are certain the time and hard work they gave while at Nexus Academy will lead them to find success.”
2014 Valedictorian Arrielle Glenn enrolled at Nexus Academy of Cleveland in August 2012 in search of a public school environment that challenged her and gave her the opportunity to learn at her own pace.

“In the last two years I have had the opportunity to focus on my grades and challenge myself in and out of the classroom,” Glenn said. “I feel very fortunate to have been able to work with the school counselors and teachers who always took the time and made the effort to help. I was also blessed to go through this experience with a very supportive and engaging group of students.”
Because of the school’s blended curriculum and flexible schedule, Glenn said she was also able to work as a marketing intern and take college courses at Cleveland State University. Last summer she was selected to represent Ohio at the 2013 National Youth Summit on the Environment hosted by the National Geographic Society and The Smithsonian National Zoo, in conjunction with George Mason University. Coincidently Arrielle will be returning to George Mason in the fall to begin college.
