Happy Saturday, neighbors! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening in town today.

Here are the top stories in Lakewood today:

  1. The Lakewood Public Library recently kicked off its annual summer reading program for area youth. The "Oceans of Possibilities"-themed program lasts 13 weeks and runs through Aug. 15, with both in-person and virtual entertainment offerings. The goal of the program is to prevent the summer slide, according to Julie Strunk, Lakewood Public Library Children's and Youth Services Manager. (cleveland.com)
  2. A former Cleveland pitcher will make an appearance at O'Toole's Pub here in Lakewood this Monday, May 23. Sam McDowell, who pitched in the Majors with Cleveland and other teams from 1961 to 1975, will appear at the pub for a podcast event and book signing. Attendees can enjoy the 4:30 p.m. buffet dinner before the 6:00 p.m. podcast begins. (cleveland.com)
  3. A nearly $20 million proposal could expand broadband access to 85 percent of Cuyahoga County's least-connected areas. The expansion plan, which would leverage funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to partner with nonprofit PCs for People, would roll out in three phases over two years. Lakewood would be included in the second phase of the project, taking place within the 12 months after the initial rollout. (News 5 Cleveland WEWS)
