Phenix Salon Suites To Open In Old Quaker Steak Lakewood Location
Lakewood's Detroit Avenue will welcome a new business in 2018. The managing partner said he thinks the business will open by September.
LAKEWOOD, OH — Phenix Salon Suites will soon occupy the space at 15314 Detroit Ave., which was previously Quaker Steak and Lube. The new business' managing partner Brian Miller said he expects the franchise to open around September 2018.
Miller said Lakewood is a great city for a new salon. It's densely packed, it's close to both downtown Cleveland and more outer ring suburbs. Plus, the Phenix's specific location will be close to quality off-street parking, a rarity for businesses on Detroit Avenue.
Phenix Salon is actually part of a chain of salons throughout the U.S. The business was started on the west coast by a family of hair stylists and salon professionals. The Lakewood location will be the fourth Phenix Salon in Ohio and the first in Northeast Ohio.

Miller believes Phenix is more focused on its stylists than other salons. "We offer education that is unique in the industry. Frankly, the way we offer the suites and some of our policies are a little different. We don’t require one or two-year leases for them to come in. We want it to be easier for them. We offer month-to-month leases. The hope is we win their business. We don’t make them commit to long term leases," he said.
The Lakewood location will be Miller's first franchise. He said he's excited about joining an industry he likes.

"Running a business that helps other small business owners — I like that. I know it might sound cliched, but I’m helping people who have dreams to start their own business. I like that," he told Patch.
While the lease may have just been signed, there will be plenty of work happening inside the building to prepare for the transition.
"The landlord just signed the lease with the tenant. Substantial build out will need to take place to transition the space from the former Quaker Steak restaurant to a salon. We're looking forward to this space being active again," said Bryce Sylvester, the city's director of planning and development.
