Prestigious Band Award Earned By Lakewood High Senior

LAKEWOOD, OH — A Lakewood High senior earned a prestigious distinction this summer. Kira Marjanovic received the Director's Award for the 2018 All-Ohio State Fair Band. She beat out more than 200 other band members from across the state for the award.

Marjanovic was one of four Lakewood High students that took part in this year's Fair Band. Some 200 players from across the state converged on Columbus and quickly learned music and steps for performances that would take place over 10 days at the Ohio State Fair.

This year, seniors Marjanovic, principal trumpet, Lidia Logan, alto sax, junior Katie Livingston, flute, and sophomore Gina Marjanovic, French horn, performed at the Fair. All four students had to be recommended by the Lakewood band director, in order to participate.

With more than 200 students performing as part of the Band, the students had just four days prior to the State Fair's opening to rehearse and learn their music. The band performed up to 10 times a day for attendees, including a daily parade through the 360-acre fairgrounds. The band also performed off-site at the Statehouse and at Columbus' Park of Roses, the Lakewood City Schools said.

The Fair ran from July 25 to Aug. 5.

This was not Marjanovic's first State Fair Band rodeo, having performed in previous years at the Fair. The trumpet player also earned entrance into the prestigious U.S. Marine Corps' music program in early 2018.
