Public Art Coming To Detroit-Sloane Intersection In Lakewood
The city wants to welcome visitors and residents into the city with a sculpture and street-painted art.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Artwork could soon grace the intersection of Detroit Avenue and Sloan Avenue. The city is looking for proposals from artists to create both custom signage and a street paint design at the intersection.
Proposals for the project are due by August 7, according to the city's website. A request for proposals (RFP) has been issued and is available at the bottom of this story, for interested applicants.
The project was made possible through a $50,000 grant from Cuyahoga County, called the Community Development Supplemental Grant (CDSG). "An artist stipend of $1,000 will be paid for the design of the painted bump outs and custom signage. The budget for the custom signage is $15,000. Please develop proposals with this budget in mind," the city said in the RFP.

The city said it wants the Detroit-Sloane project to create new signage welcoming visitors and residents into Lakewood, provide bicycle parking, and be flexible enough to be moved in the event of construction. The city also wants the project to be winter durable (a must in Northeast Ohio). Art will also be painted onto the street.
"The Detroit/Sloane/Valley Parkway intersection is an important gateway for the City. It is the main entrance into Lakewood from both Rocky River and from the Cleveland Metroparks Rocky River Reservation," the city said in its RFP.
