Renowned Archaeologist Speaks To Harding Middle School

LAKEWOOD, OH - Technology has been allowing Lakewood students at Harding Middle School to connect with some of the premier minds in American education for five years. Teacher Kevin Spooner uses Google Hangout to video conference in various experts on different subjects throughout the year. Most recently, Spooner had archaeologist Jonathan Mark Kenoyer of the University of Wisconsin conference in and discuss the Indus Valley.
Kenoyer is one of the world's foremost experts on the Indus Valley of Southeast Asia. Spooner first reached out to Kenoyer five years ago and has been conducting Google Hangout sessions with Kenyoer and Harding Middle School students for half a decade.
Spooner told Patch the most recent Hangout session covered cultural diffusion, government, economics, agriculture, writing, and technology. Sessions are conducted in Socratic style, with students and guest posing questions to each other.

"This is where students are asked to synthesize information garnered and continue the questioning process based on learning standards that were our focus throughout the unit and recognizing correlations with the other ancient civilizations we study throughout the year (Mesopotamia, Egypt, and China)," Spooner said via email.
