Rep. Antonio Announces Funding for Mental Health Services: State approves $500K for supportive housing

Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) is pleased to announce the release of $500,000 to assist the community in a project to house individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. Construction of an apartment building with 65 efficiency units will be dedicated to provide independent, permanent supportive housing for individuals with mental illness. “Housing that is safe, decent and affordable can be the lifeline to improved quality of life for those in our community living with severe mental illness,” said Rep. Antonio. “To those future residents we say, ‘welcome home’.” The Emerald Development and Economic Network Inc. (EDEN), a non-profit contract agency of the Cuyahoga County ADAMHS Board, is responsible for the project and will develop and operate the building. The housing complex will include a staff office, lobby and common space for laundry and socialization. The Cuyahoga County ADAMHS Board and its agencies maintain a waiting list of individuals and families with severe and persistent mental illness in need of permanent, safe, decent and affordable housing. This project proposes to increase the number of independent housing units for consumers.
