Rep. Marcy Kaptur Votes For Trump's Impeachment
Kaptur said she was concerned by the president's "systematic betrayal of our values."

LAKEWOOD, OH — Representative Marcy Kaptur voted for impeaching President Donald Trump on Wednesday night. In a statement to her constituents she said Trump had "betrayed our values and national security."
“Members of Congress swear a solemn oath to protect and defend our Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. Today, we fulfilled our oath,” said Kaptur.
With Kaptur's help, the U.S. House impeached Trump on charges of abusing his office by attempting an arms-for-dirt scheme against former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and obstructing of Congress for trying to cover up his actions.

The impeachment vote was predictably partisan. All House Republicans, including Gonzalez, voted against the impeachment. All but two House Democrats voted for the impeachment. The tallies were 230-197 on abuse and 229-198 on obstruction.
Trump, the nation's 45th president, became only the third person in the office to be impeached. He now faces trial in the Senate and the prospect, however unlikely, of being removed from office for "high crimes and misdemeanors."

In her statement to constituents, Kaptur, whose district stretches from Toledo to Lakewood, said, "no one is above the law, not even the president. Donald Trump is a threat to our republic and should be removed from office without delay."
“I would like my constituents to know that a vote for impeachment is not one that has been whipped up by Democratic leadership – from its start, it has been driven by the public. Our office has fielded hundreds of calls from citizens urging impeachment. It has taken the strong moral courage of whistleblowers, public servants, veterans, and legislators to bring us to this solemn moment in our nation’s history, but first and foremost it was the president’s own actions that started us down this unfortunate path," Kaptur said.
