Rock On: Rocky River Students Make Finals Of Tri-C Rock-Off

The annual competition between high school bands has selected 12 finalists. One of the bands is largely made up of local students.

ROCKY RIVER, OH — Rocky River is home to some, sorry for the pun, rocking students. An alternative rock band featuring three Rocky River High School students beat out 51 other high school bands to make the finals in the 2018 Tri-C High School Rock-Off.

The band, called Filler, won the Rocky River High School talent show last week. Now they're one of 12 finalists in the Rock-Off Final Exam competition that is scheduled for Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. and will be held int he Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The band includes Rocky River senior, and lead guitarist, William Ridzon, junior and vocalist Cameron Morris and senior and bass guitarist Joe Greenfield. The band is rounded out by Bay Village High School junior, and drummer, Auden Stevenson.

Filler was one of only three bands that made it out of the preliminary round on Feb. 3. Filler will be competing against bands from Ohio, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania and Kentucky.

During the preliminaries, the band played a four-song set. Filler rocked out to covers of "She's Not There" by the Zombies, "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath and "Victorious" by Wolfmother. The final song in the set was "Sunset" an original song.

The winner of the Rock Off will get a $1,000 cash prize and $250 for their high school music program. The band will also get opportunities to record and perform. Second prize in the contest is $250 cash and $100 for the school. Third place is $100 cash.
