A 21-year-old son admits to drinking 2.5 pints of brandy. A 9-year-old at the same kitchen table remembers mom's bone hanging from her hand.

MILWAUKEE, WI — A 21-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested and charged after he drank about 2.5 pints of brandy and then accidentally shot his mother while she, and his 9-year-old brother, were sitting at the kitchen table, according to police.
On March 23, Milwaukee police responded to St. Luke’s Hospital where they met with a woman who said her son, Isaiah Eubanks, accidentally shot her while they were both inside their home on the 5000 block of W. Forest Home Avenue in Milwaukee.
According to police, the mother told police Eubanks had been drinking brandy earlier in the day and said he was sitting at the kitchen table when the gun went off and the bullet struck her hand.

Police later went to the woman's home and spoke with a 9-year-old child of the family, who witnessed the shooting. He said that as his brother was attempting to remove the magazine from the gun, he cocked the slide back and the gun went off, police say.
According to a criminal complaint, the 9-year-old heard his mother scream in pain that she had been shot in the finger. He remembered seeing the bone in one of her fingers hanging down off her hand.

The night of the shooting, approximately four hours after the incident, Eubanks was administered a preliminary breath test, which recorded 0.19, police records show.
Eubanks told police he began drinking hard liquor around noon on the day of the shooting and estimated drinking around 2.5 pints of brandy. He said that he had been carrying his gun in a holster on his waist all day, police said.
According to the criminal complaint, around 2 p.m., he went out to pick up his friend, and at that time he was carrying the gun on him “open carry.” Around 4 p.m., his mother arrived home from work. Eubanks said he was standing near the kitchen area trying to clear out his gun.
While trying to unload his gun, he had his finger inside the trigger guard. He stated that he must have pulled the trigger while pulling the slide of the gun back. The gun went off, and he accidentally shot his mother in the hand, police reported.
Eubanks has been charged with injury by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon and also endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon.
