Orlando Wildfire Near Disney World Burns Over 450 Acres

Several passing motorists posted photos of the fire that showed thick plumes of smoke.

ORLANDO, FL — A wildfire that broke out near Disney World in Orlando early Friday afternoon has burned almost 500 acres and is 75 percent contained, according to the Florida Forest Service.

The fire is in the area of Daryl Carter Parkway and International Drive. Orange County Fire Rescue is also on scene of the fire.

According to fire authorities, 30 to 40 rooms are being evacuated from the nearby Sheraton Vistana Resort. While there are no road closures in place, the Orange County Sheriff's office is asking the public to stay away from the area.

So far there are no reported injuries. The fire is believed to be wind-driven and the cause is currently under investigation.

Several eyewitnesses posted photos of the fire. Thick white smoke could be seen coming from the scene.
