School-Based Medical Clinic Gets Ribbon Cutting In Lakewood

The facility actually opened Jan. 23 and operates during school hours.

LAKEWOOD, OH — The in-school clinic at Lakewood High School got a ribbon cutting on Tuesday. The facility, which actually opened Jan. 23, provides health services to students and district employees.

There are a total of four patient exam and consulting rooms at the clinic. Students can get mental health evaluations, physicals, prescriptions, sick visits, vaccinations and Shared Medical Appointments (SMA), as well as get help with chronic conditions like asthma.

The clinic is staffed by a certified nurse practitioner, behavioral health specialist and a pediatric psychiatrist. The ribbon cutting featured Dr. James Hekman, Cleveland Clinic Lakewood Family Health Center medical director and Dr. Genevive Falconi, Cleveland Clinic Children's School-Based Health Center medical director.

The Cleveland Clinic started school-based health care programs in 2014. The 2017-2018 school year is serving as the pilot program for the health center at the high school. The Cleveland Clinic's mobile unit, which has been travelling to schools throughout the district two days a week, will continue to visit all schools except Lakewood High.
