School Board President Matt Markling Not Seeking Re-Election in November

After four years on the Lakewood Board of Education, Markling's obligations are shifting from politics to parenting.

president Matt Markling has announced that he will not seek reelection this November. 

After launching a campaign in late May, Markling decided to call it off and step down effective Dec. 31, 2011. 

He said his exit from politics coincides with his need to spend more time with his wife and children.

When asked whether or not he would reenter the local political sphere, he said, “I will never say, ‘never.’ But, for now, I am solely focused upon my need to put family ahead of politics."

“Matt sat down with us and made an easy and not-so-easy decision given his dedication to the district,” school board vice president John Kamkutis said. “But family comes first and Matt is a wonderful dad whose number one priority is family. We’ll miss him and we wish him all the best.”

Markling has served on the board since his term began in 2008, and was in January.
