The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Lakewood.
Good morning, neighbors! It's Saturday in Lakewood and I'm back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening in our community today. Let's dive in.
First, today's weather:
Breezy with a stray t-storm. High: 86 Low: 75.
Here are the top three stories in Lakewood today:
- Seven men were arrested for online sex crimes as the result of a two-day sting operation, called "Operation Watchdog," led by the Elyria Police Department and the Lorain County Prosecutor's Office. The men are accused of interacting with and traveling to meet children for sexual activity, only the victims weren't children - they were undercover officers. "Online predators remain a serious threat to our children... the success of this operation will send a message to offenders that you will be found, you will be arrested, and you will be prosecuted," authorities stated in a news release. (Cleveland 19)
- Police are searching for the vehicle involved in a hit-skip crash that left a 3-year-old girl dead and two others injured. The incident happened after 10:00 p.m. near Track Road and Lufkin Avenue in the city's North Broadway neighborhood. The girl, another child, and a man were bicycling southbound on Track Road when a gold Cadillac Escalade struck them head-on. (Cleveland.com)
- Defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey was signed to the Cleveland Browns from Oklahoma on Friday. He was the 108th pick overall in the 2022 NFL Draft and became a fan favorite when a video of his reaction to getting drafted went viral in the city. Perrion was named a second-team All-Big 12 Conference selection last year. (News 5 Cleveland)
