Shooting At Madison Park: Community Group Issues Statement

LAKEWOOD, OH — The Friends of Madison Park said Thursday's shooting at the park's basketball courts was an "isolated" incident and an "extreme rarity."

A person was injured in a shooting on the south side of Madison Park and later taken into custody, police said. Other people involved in the incident fled before police arrived.

"While the recent unfortunate incident in our park was understandably unsettling for many of us, we remain steadfast in our belief that it was isolated, and history suggest such incidents are an extreme rarity," the Friends of Madison Park said in a statement shared on social media.

The group thanked Lakewood police for their handling of Thursday's shooting and vowed to work with city officials and other community partners to make Madison Park as safe as possible.
