Stolen SUV Found In Lakewood, One Person In Custody

Police said the vehicle was reported stolen by Florida police, but was found on Newman Avenue on Thursday morning.

LAKEWOOD, OH — An SUV stolen in Florida was found on Newman Avenue on Thursday morning. One person has been taken into custody by police.

Lakewood officers found a stolen 2013 Kia Sorento parked in the 1500 block of Newman Avenue at about 9 a.m. The vehicle had been taken from a town in Florida, police said.

After finding the Sorento, police stuck around and monitored the area. They identified a man they believe was driving the SUV. He was taken into custody at 7 p.m.

The suspect is being held at Lakewood City Jail on suspicion of receiving stolen property. Floridian investigators are expected to interview the man about how he came into possession of the Kia.

Police said the investigation into the stolen SUV is ongoing and the suspect has not been officially charged. No details on the suspect have yet been released.

The Sorento is currently in police possession, according to Lieutenant William Albrecht of Lakewood Police.
