🌱 Studio West Gets $5M Tax Credit + Ohio Cities Ban Fireworks

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Lakewood.

Hello there, Lakewood. I'm here in your inbox this summer morning to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on in town. Here's the lowdown.

First, today's weather:

Sunny to partly cloudy. High: 79 Low: 66.

Here are the top three stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Studio West 117 entertainment complex received a $5 million state historic tax credit.
"The state historic tax credit award is critical for us being able to renovate the Phantasy," said Daniel Budish, one of the developers of the expansive project. "It works in conjunction with the federal historic tax credit we received on that property," he added. (cleveland.com)
  2. House Bill 172 allows Ohio residents to legally buy and set off fireworks starting this Jul. 4. However, the bill gives communities the authority to set local limitations. Many communities and cities in NE Ohio, like Cleveland, Eastlake, Mentor, and Parma, have announced they will not permit fireworks. (Fox 8 News)
  3. A routine inspection led to the close of a stretch of I-90 eastbound East of downtown Cleveland on Thursday afternoon. The Ohio Department of Transportation discovered broken and missing bolts that support the overhead sign. (Cleveland 19)

Are you a Lakewood resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
