If the first evening of the Thai Hut restaurant’s existence is any indication, the Sriweawnetr family’s latest venture will likely be a success.
Local diners quickly filled the diminutive space at 13359 Madison Avenue as the meat of the dinner hour approached, making take-out a virtual certainty for several curious area customers on Friday.
Lek Sriweawnetr, along with his wife and daughter, Pirin, made the move from Mentor to Lakewood, and early signs indicate it was a wise decision.

“It was a better pick,” Pirin, a 23-year-old Ohio State student, said. “Lakewood is a more hip area.”
The Sriweawnetr name might be familiar to some veteran local foodies. In the 16 years they’ve been in Cleveland, they owned the award-winning Thai Orchid in Lyndhurst for 13 years and Mentor for the last three.

The current restaurant’s wall proudly displays the Thai Orchid’s honors from Cleveland Magazine’s Silver Spoon awards in 1998 and 1999 and the former Northern Ohio Live for best Thai food.
The family recommends Pad Thai as being one of their best dishes.
Pirin teasingly said her parents, both in their 60s, aren’t up on the internet much, but the restaurant will have a facebook page very soon.
The restaurant is closed on Monday, but operates Tuesday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 8 p.m.
