Thefts From Cars Up In Lakewood In Recent Weeks
Thieves are targeting cars left unlocked and parked on the street or in driveways.

LAKEWOOD, OH — There has been an uptick of thefts from unlocked cars parked in Lakewood, the police department announced this week. Residents are being asked to ensure their car is locked before leaving it on the street or in their driveway.
Police said petty thefts have been spiking over the past few weeks. Cars parked on the street and in driveways have been specifically targeted.
"Leaving vehicle doors unlocked makes it much easier for someone to easily and quickly rummage through and remove small items/valuables," the police department said on Facebook.

As spring blossoms, bringing with it warmer weather, it is common throughout Northeast Ohio to see a surge in thefts of opportunity. Police note warm weather brings an increase in pedestrian traffic too, making it harder to determine who has been in an area.
Lakewood police are asking residents to remember to lock their cars in coming weeks to deter these types of theft.
