Tony Trunzo Exhibit Opens at Local Girl Gallery

A vintage toy theme permeates most of the collection, though a few stray liquor bottles, beer cans and portraits snuck in.

Drawn with oil sticks on halved wooden doors, Tony Trunzo’s subjects dominate the space allotted to them, leaving just enough room for a few stray scribbles serving as backgrounds.

His first showing in Lakewood, Trunzo’s work is currently on display at the .

At Saturday’s opening reception, people gathered in the center of the space, gazing outward each time their conversation hit a lull.

Creepy Monkey snarled back at them, smashing symbols with bulging eyes, though most of the other toys were less seething.

As JP Pasternak (DJ Sputnik) produced a soundtrack, people continued circling the gallery, enjoying wine and snacks.

Imperfect images that contain mistakes, which “gives them a more human feel,” Trunzo feels his style reflects his personality.

“They’re very loose and they’re pretty true,” he said.  “They’re not stagnant. I think that’s what people like about them.”
