Trinity Lakewood On The Move

Trinity Lutheran Church closes the doors on its old property and opens a new chapter down the street!

Trinity Lutheran Church will be closing the doors at its current property at 16400 Detroit Rd. and moving 1/2 mile down the street to Lakewood Congregational Church's chapel at 1375 West Clifton Blvd. Sunday, January 14th, the Rev. Abraham Allende, bishop of the Northeastern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, will join the Rev. Sara Cogsil and Trinity members as we de-consecrate the building and walk/carpool in a procession down the street to our new home.

Trinity's congregation voted unanimously to sell the property after a lengthy process of deliberation and much prayer. The people decided on four parameters: we would stay together as a congregation, remain in Lakewood, continue to be a Reconciling in Christ congregation that is open and affirming to ALL, and continue the ministry of Trinity Lakewood Community Outreach. These goals were the guiding force behind all subsequent deliberations as we searched for a new home. We also called a new pastor in August of 2017, the Rev. Sara Cogsil, who came to us in large part because the congregation was willing to sell its building to further our ministry and outreach.

Lakewood Congregational Church, part of the United Church of Christ denomination, and their pastor, the Rev. Mark Thomas, have welcomed us into their church building. Trinity will maintain its own worship space in the chapel as LCC uses the larger sanctuary for their worship service. Our ministries of community meals, food pantry, garden, and produce distribution, will join the outreach of the congregation of LCC. Trinity is delighted to consider having its children together in faith formation classes with LCC and opportunities for other collaborations are being considered.

Worship at Trinity begins at 10am each Sunday. We have an outstanding choir that rehearses before the service. Nursery care is provided during the service, and children 4 and above are invited to join the faith formation classes during the worship time. Trinity is a welcoming, open, and affirming community of faith, and we are blessed to continue our ministry in this next chapter of our history.
