Veterans Memorial Bridge & Subway Tour 2017

tour, photoshoot, history, subway, streetcar, tunnel, bridge lower deck, Cleveland infrastructure,

The tour of the lower level that used to support railway traffic, opened on Christmas Day 1917 with 4 streetcar tracks and in 1918 was the world's largest double-deck concrete reinforced bridge. Streetcar service was discontinued in 1954. The cost was $5, 398, 000.00, There was a rehab project in 1995 - 1997 when the bridge was closed.
For me as a NYC Press Corps transplant to Lakewood, this was my 1st visit. Besides getting great views for my cameras, I met many friendly people (must've been my NPPA Press Pass, LOL) and chatted with them resulting in getting great photos. Plus most importantly, I always seem to find Lakewoodites wherever I go. I saw one lady looking at me in a very focused way and came to find out that she recognized me as "Faces of Lakewood" on Facebook.
Another interesting photoshoot occurred when I saw a mom taking "model pose" pics of her daughter and she let me take some since I'm also a fashion photojournalist for "Haute Ohio Fashion Magazine". She runs a phototgraphy business at www.focused.photography, melissa@focused.photography.
