The View from Ward 2: Issue #12

Primary Election, Acts of Kindness, Census 2020, and Coronavirus updates!

Tessie stopping to smell the roses.

I hope you all enjoyed this beautiful weekend and are finding positive ways to practice social distancing.

The kindness and strength of our community was on full display this week. Our local businesses are working together to see how they can assist each other during this time. For instance, Mars Bar and Dang Good Foods are selling Fear’s Confections products at their restaurants. I encourage residents to continue to support our local businesses.

Much to Tessie’s delight, we have been enjoying many long walks, and have seen home displays offering hope and kind gestures to keep our spirits up. Yesterday, a neighbor on Cook Avenue offered beautiful flowers to anyone who passed by. Andrews Avenue residents, Jason and Kris, hosted a neighborhood concert featuring professional violinist Ariel Clayton Karas. Several residents have put their holiday lights back up to bring some spring cheer. Kudos to all.

Last week we learned that Lakewood’s Human Services Department delivered 1,000 meals on Monday, March 23rd and is gearing up for another large delivery today. The Healthy Lakewood Foundation awarded a grant to assist the City in helping seniors and families access food during this crisis. Human Services is continuously seeking volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Division of Aging at (216) 521-1515.

We also heard reports that some residents of our assisted living homes believe that they can still congregate if they are wearing masks. Please let your loved ones know that this would be a mistake and that they should maintain social distancing throughout this emergency.
