Walk Around Lakewood II

Celebrate Walkable Lakewood

Walk Around Lakewood II

The second annual “Walk Around Lakewood” will take place on Saturday, June 23. The event is taking place on one of the longest days of the year, not by accident. Walkers are going to need all the daylight hours, in order to enjoy the 15 mile walk at a nice and easy pace. “Its all about the walkability of Lakewood, Ohio” says Dan Morgan, event organizer. “My wife Annette and I just love walking in Lakewood, just about wherever you walk, there are beautiful homes, with well kept yards and great green space.” exclaims Morgan.

The walk is exactly as it is named, a walk AROUND Lakewood. The route follows the boundaries of Lakewood on all sides, including Lake Erie, the Metroparks, Birdtown, West 117th and The Gold Coast. The first "Walk Around Lakewood" took place around the same time last summer. “We had all kinds of interest on our Facebook Event Page, but very few people showed up for the walk.” Dan explains “I am really not sure why we had so few people actually participate last year, but those who came loved it!

“Dan told me about this event several months before the event, so I put it in my calendar, it sounded fun.” says Susan DiMassa “ I really did not even realize that we were actually walking ALL around Lakewood, but I thought, okay, I will try it!” The walk is very informally layed out, and there will be hand outs on the morning of the walk, that include the exact route, and a map. There are restrooms and restaurants along the way, so there are many places to stop and rest.

This is not an official City Of Lakewood event but Dan attracted New Lakewood City Council member Tristan Rader through the Facebook Event Page https://www.facebook.com/events/1968409356709723/ “I met Tristan at a Lakewood High School Football game last summer” says Morgan “I enjoyed meeting him and his wife Caitlan, The were very sweet, they were out in the community drumming up support for his campaign at the time. I friended him on Facebook and really love his enthusiasm for shaping the bright future of Lakewood.” Tristan wrote on the W.A.L. event page "Fantastic idea!! Every year a few of us would walk to work from Lakewood to E. 152nd, about 15 miles. Taking time to explore the places you pass by everyday changes your perspective. Helps you connect with the world around you. I’ll be there Dan!!
