Want To Get Involved In Lakewood Politics? Boards Need Members

LAKEWOOD, OH — Three boards and committees in Lakewood are seeking new members to fill vacancies. The Audit Committee, Board of Zoning Appeals and the Human Rights Commission are all need applicants.

There are two vacancies on the Audit Committee. The group meets quarterly with the Lakewood finance director and city council's finance committee to provide review and oversight of the city's financial processes.

Audit Committee members must be capable of reviewing financial statements and reports and must be able to serve as an independent forum to report fraud to an auditor. The vacancies are for two, two-year terms, available January 1, 2020.

There is one vacancy for the Board of Zoning Appeal. The board meets on the third Thursday of every month to hear and decide all appeals made for variances to the city's zoning code. One seat, for a five-year-term, is available and will begin January 1, 2020.

There is also one opening on the Human Rights Commission. The group meets as infrequently as needed and is designed to ensure that the Lakewood Codified Ordinances Discrimination Prohibited policy is enforced. The policy protects residents from discrimination in employment, housing, education and public accommodation.

Applications for all positions are due by November 26. A cover letter and resume should be submitted to the Lakewood Clerk of Council, Maureen Bach, via mail or email.
