Water, Sewer Rates Increasing In Lakewood
Starting Jan. 1, residents will start increases on their sewer and water bills.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Water and sewer rates will increase for residents starting Jan. 1. Water rates will see a 5 percent increase, while sewer rates will increase 10 percent, the city announced.
“Lakewood is unique in the region as we operate our own drinking water system, as well as our own sewer and waste treatment system,” Lakewood Mayor Mike Summers said in a statement. “As is the case in many aspects of our city, we have to upgrade, replace, and continue to reinvest in our future. Our underground assets of water and sewer pipes are chief among these investments.”
Water rates will increase from $6.44 per ccf or 100 cubic feet, to $6.76 per ccf. Sewer rates will increase from $6.20 per ccf to $6.82 per ccf. That means, according to the city a typical residential bill of six ccf per month will increase from $75.84 in 2017 to $81.48 in 2018.

The increase in sewer and water will go to a $11.6 million system repair project, including $4.8 million for water main replacements and sewer repairs, along with manhole separation during pavement restoration, the city said.
Several streets are scheduled to get water main replacements in 2018, including: Athens Avenue, Atkins Avenue, Hathaway Avenue, Lewis Avenue, Sylvan Avenue and Waterbury Road. The city said on its website that the projects will help move Lakewood's infrastructure into the 21st century.
