July 26, 2015 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). It was signed into law on July 26,1990 by President George H.W. Bush. The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including employment, state and local government services and programs, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. The purpose of the law is to make sure that individuals with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.
“We are excited and grateful to partner with TownHall and ADA Cleveland to host this inaugural walk,” said Tony Thomas, Executive Director of Welcome House. “This walk symbolizes the importance of rallying for the rights of those with disabilities and constantly creating a world where folks with disabilities are treated fairly. It is the mission of Welcome House to provide environments where our clients live independent and fulfilling lives, and we appreciate all those who support and celebrate our clients.”

Councilman Joe Cimperman added, “This anniversary gives us a chance to walk as one in the city. We are honored to walk with those who paved the way to live a better life for all of us”.
TownHall, a sponsor and advocate are also excited to be a part of this significant day and first Welcome Walk. “I have a brother who is disabled, which has allowed me the opportunity to see how hard it can be to take care of a disabled relative,” said Bobby George, owner of TownHall. “Welcome House and servant leaders like Tony Thomas are blessings to these kids and to their families, especially as they grow into their adult lives when many of their caretakers pass away, grow older, or become unable to take care of them. Thank God for the leadership of Tony Thomas, Welcome House, and anyone else that makes the sacrifice to serve the disabled!”
