“They’re really a solid group of kids,” LHS teacher Joseph Lobozzo said. “They’re really committed to the school and will be good ambassadors for Lakewood…and we can’t thank the Lakewood Alumni Foundation enough since they offered the financial support to make this all possible.”
Key to awesomeness: Kait Stuebner, the museum’s manager of educational programming, said that Lakewood was the first school she thought of as she began to invite the 120 students who will be attending from across the nation, PR specialist, Christine Gordillo, said. This ultra-exclusive event, which will take place in the White House on February 23-24, will feature Motown legends like Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder.

From now until next week, each of Lobozzo’s students will study various Motown artists and the storied history of the music. And when the opportunity arises during the workshop and backstage event, they’ll be able to speak knowledgeably and concisely with these transformative and widely known artists.
“I think this is going to leave a lasting impression on us,” Perez said. “How often are you allowed in the White House to see the President and meet musicians like Smokey Robinson? Not often.”
